Pole rings MWR & MWI

Pole rings are used as magnetic measurement scales for angle and speed measurement. 

Our pole rings are provided with a magnetic coding using a special in-house procedure. This allows simple rings with incremental tracks or even reference poles or various codings, such as vernier or pseudo random code, to be produced.

There are many raw materials that can be used as measurement scales.

We offer pole rings made of

  • plastic-bonded hard ferrite
  • sintered hard ferrite
  • elastomer-bonded hard ferrite on steel substrate

Suitable for absolute or incremental applications, e.g.:

  • Motor commutation
  • Speed measurement
  • Angle measurements

General information

The pole rings generally consist of sintered plastic-bonded or elastomer-bonded hard ferrite and are magnetized at the circumference. Incremental pole rings feature alternating magnetized north and south poles. Special coding, such as vernier tracks or pseudo random codes, are also possible. Up to 3 tracks can be magnetized on one ring.

Elastomer-bonded hard ferrite rings on steel substrate

The pole rings are distinguished by a durable support which can be attached to a shaft. The outer diameter of the steel substrate features a vulcanized rubber material, which is enriched with hard ferrite particles and can be magnetized.

Sintered hard ferrite rings

Sintered hard ferrite rings have high remanence and exhibit a higher field strength after the magnetization process than rings where the hard ferrite particles are bonded in a substrate.

The rings can also be used at high temperatures. However, a suitable support is recommended for assembly.

Rings of plastic bonded hard ferrite

These rings are produced using injection molding tools. They can be easily manufactured in very high quantities and are therefore well suited to high volume applications. However, due to the manufacturing process, the distribution of the magnetic particles is not always optimal. The rings are mostly produced as anisotropic rings which also has a positive impact on the remanence.

Rings elastomer tape glued to carrier

An elastomeric tape is glued onto a stable carrier with very small seams. Due to the full-surface bonding, a high speed resistance is achieved. This production method is very suitable for large diameters and is ideal for small and medium quantities or prototypes. Only low tooling costs are required for production.
