Sensitec encoder modules - Magnetoresitive measuring systems
Sensitec’s encoder modules consist of one or more sensor chips combined with signal and evaluation electronics. The raw sensor signals are prepared on the encoder modules and processed in such a way that they can ideally be used directly on a control system.
Depending on the version, the encoder modules provide different output signals and therefore cover a wide range of uses in a wide variety of end applications.
The latest, axial-measuring TMR FixPitch sensors enable a flat design and singleturn resolutions over 23 bit.
Magnetic sensor for high-speed applications and high temperatures, precise, robust, compatible with SmCo ring.
Below you will find a further selection of different sensor modules.
The sensor modules in this series consist of an AMR fixed-pitch sensor and a 13-bit interpolation ASIC. When used with a magnetic measuring scale with a pole length of 1 mm, the modules supply two square-wave signals A and B that are phase-shifted by 90°. The modules have additional protective diodes at the outputs and the supply voltage.
The resolution can be set to up to 8192 measuring steps per pole. The modules are calibrated during production and therefore offer increased accuracy.

The EMI7913 sensor module has been specially developed for use in linear motors. The module can be adapted to the magnetic pitch of the linear motor and the motor magnets are used as a measuring scale for the sensor module. The sensor module is equipped with additional signal processing with an A/B quadrature output or a 1 Vpp interface. Two different module sizes are available to increase the accuracy of the module. This ensures optimum adaptation to the motor magnets.

With one exception, the compact and high-resolution sensor modules in the EBI7914 series consist of AMR fixed-pitch sensors and an interpolation ASIC. When used with a magnetic measuring standard with different pole lengths, the modules provide two differential square-wave signals A and B, phase-shifted by 90°. The module has an automatic auto-calibration function for optimum measurement results.
Compared to the EBI7914, the EBR7914 variant is equipped with an additional circuit board with a reference sensor based on the GMR effect. The signals from the reference sensor are processed in the ASIC together with the incremental signals. The modules therefore provide 3 differential output signals (A/B/Z).
Another special variant for measurement at the shaft end is equipped with a TA903 sensor based on the TMR effect. This can be used in combination with a dipole magnet for absolute 360° measurement.

The PLM7922 family comprises high-precision magnetic position encoders that have been specially developed for demanding and absolute position measurements. All encoders in this series are based on absolute measurement using two-track magnetic tapes and utilise advanced MR sensor technology in combination with integrated correction algorithms for particularly high accuracy and reliability.
The family offers a selection of variants that differ in terms of mechanical dimensions, resolutions and interfaces. Versions with SPI, SSI or BiSS-C are available.
With resolutions of up to 0.1 µm and genuine “true power-on” functionality, the encoders in the PLM7922 series are ideal for applications in industrial automation and flat motors where space requirements, performance and reliability are crucial.

The PAM7940 family comprises high-precision magnetic encoder systems that have been specially developed for demanding position measurements in compact applications. All encoders in this series are based on 360-degree absolute measurement using two-track axial magnetic discs and use advanced MR sensor technology in combination with integrated correction algorithms for particularly high accuracy and reliability.
The family offers a wide range of variants that differ in mechanical dimensions, resolutions and interfaces. Versions with SPI, SSI or BiSS-C are available. Some models also offer battery-buffered multitrack measurement to enable uninterrupted position tracking even in the event of a power loss.
With resolutions of up to 24 bits and true power-on functionality, the encoders in the PAM7940 series are ideal for applications in robotics, industrial automation and flat motors where space, performance and reliability are critical. Depending on the model, the sensor and magnetic disc are available either separately or as a pre-calibrated, bearing-integrated unit, which facilitates integration into existing systems.

The PAM7950 encoder family comprises axial absolute encoders that determine the position of the drive and output side. These systems consist of two separate encoders, which in turn consist of a 360-degree absolute sensor and a two-track axial magnetic disc. This system enables a genuine “true power-on” position measuring system with a resolution of up to 24 bits and various interfaces (SPI, SSI or BiSS-C). Thanks to its flat design, the system is ideal for robot applications and flat motors.
The PAM7951 encoder consists of two separate, stacked circuit boards and a magnetic ring on the front and back of the encoder. In contrast, the PAM7953 encoder only consists of a single circuit board and both magnetic rings are located on the same side.

Special tooth shapes are not necessary; the modules also work on perforated or rectangular structures. The sensor signals are processed in an ASIC and passed directly to the controller.
Digital modules (EBx7811xBx) offer high resolution thanks to interpolation, analogue modules (EBx7811xDB) maintain stable output amplitudes. All modules provide differential signals and support longer cables. Modules with reference sensor provide additional reference signals.

The “FOCUS” programming and calibration tool was specially developed to easily recalibrate the EBR7811 sensor modules in the customer application and also to change settings on the module.
The tool offers an automatic calibration process and also a logging function for the calibration process by means of clear PC software – this is particularly suitable if the module is calibrated in production or in customer service.
